Skin rejuvenation with Intense Pulsed Light A new method of treatment, a skin rejuvenation procedure that gives the skin a fresher and more youthful appearance without being abrasive or injuring the skin. Decreases age lines and sun damaged areas, small wrinkles, certain pigmented areas and superficial blood vessels. Softens up small scars and improves large-pored skin. The face, neck, cleavage and back of the hands can be treated. With this treatment an intense light penetrates down to the skin’s deeper layers and affects tissues located there, while leaving the surface of the skin intact. The light energy is converted to heat, and certain coloured target areas (pigment and haemoglobin) react to the energy and are transformed into fine particles and transported away without injuring surrounding tissue. The collagen content and the elasticity thereby increase. The skin becomes smoother and has a more youthful appearance. Sunbathing (both outside and in a solarium) should be avoided for 4 weeks prior to as well as during the course of treatment. Dark pigment and suntan cause poorer treatment results. No anaesthetic is needed, but a slight stinging, pricking pain can be experienced – like the “flick of a rubber band”. There can be slight redness after the treatment. Pigmented patches can darken somewhat before totally disappearing. You can function as usual and do not need to be sick-listed. To obtain results, 3-6 treatments are usually needed.
