We distinguish between minor and major cosmetic nasal surgery. In minor operations only cartilage is operated on, while in major operations the whole nose, both cartilage and bone, is involved. A minor cosmetic operation is done under local anaesthesia and sedation. A major cosmetic operation requires general anaesthesia. There is bruising and swelling after the operation. A plastic splint is placed over the bridge of the nose and remains there for a week.
