In plastic surgery of the abdomen both surplus skin and fat are removed from the abdomen, and the abdominal musculature is stitched together in the midline. The skin is stretched downward and the navel is moved up to the same position as before. In some cases only a small procedure is done and then the navel does not need to be moved. A small abdominoplasty can be combined with liposuction. The stitches disappear by themselves. For best results a girdle should be worn for several weeks after the operation.
